The Ohio Wing Drill Academy is finally here! The academy will be held at Beightler Armory in Columbus, OH on Saturday 12 November, from 0800 to 1800 hours.
The Drill Academy, while organized and executed by cadets, is open to all cadet and senior members interested in learning more about one of the oldest military traditions in history.
All participants of the Drill Academy will start the day with an interesting and informative 'Myths and Legends' presentation designed to clear up some of the most common drill myths that plague Civil Air Patrol. Afterwards, participants will be put through an invigorating series of interactive laboratories that will hone their standard Drill and Ceremonies skills as well as expand them to include basic color and honor guard duties.
Graduates of the Drill Academy will have the option of taking an 'advanced' course in future academies, which will include an accelerated version of the basic course (just a refresher!) with an emphasis on teaching and evaluating drill. Participants of the advanced course will then be given the opportunity to test their new skills by interacting with the basic course during the standard drill labs.
*** Note: As this is the first "Drill Academy", the advanced track will not be available on November 12th.
Units sending members to the drill academy should send an email to C/Capt Adam Essenmacher at adam@essenmacher.us detailing the number of cadets and/or senior members planning on participating.
Participants should hand-carry a CAPF 31 signed by their unit commander and a current CAPF 60. There is no activity fee for the course.
The OHWG Drill Academy is a tremendous learning opportunity for any cadet. All graduates of the Academy will receive certificates of completion that will be looked upon favorably at staff selections for next year's encampment. If you have any questions regarding the Drill Academy, please contact me at adam@essenmacher.us.
