Message received: We’ve created a simple, online repository for draft cadet materials, which we’re calling the “Cadet Proving Grounds.” You can access it at the link below, and from the main cadet page (cap.gov/cadets). Cadet Proving Grounds: http://www.cap.gov/visitors/members/cadet_programs/index.cfm?nodeID=6900&audienceID=4 Of course, if you have a comment or idea about our drafts, feel free to contact us anytime. But please, keep in mind the documents on that site are DRAFTS. If you were to visit the site today, you would see drafts on our “Learn to Lead” curriculum, “Cadet Great Start” orientation program, and a flowchart for an online system for tracking cadet achievements. We’ve shared those documents with you over the past several weeks, so there’s nothing on the Proving Grounds that should be new to DCPs. But what is new is that we’re making those drafts available to the general membership.
As always, thank you for supporting the cadets. Sincerely, CURT LAFOND Chief, Cadet Programs CIVIL AIR PATROL National Headquarters 105 S Hansell St Maxwell AFB AL 36112-6332 888.211.1812 x401 334.953.4235 Fax cap.gov/cadets

RCLS Opportunity
ATTENTION: Group Commanders, Squadron Commanders, and interested Cadets,
I am pleased to announce Wisconsin Cadet Academy, Great Lakes Region Cadet Leadership School, is scheduled to run from 28 July to 4 August 2007. This year’s cost has been set at $160 for both Cadets and Senior Members and applications will soon be available online at the Wisconsin Wing encampment website. In order to attend, applicants must have previously graduated from a Basic Encampment and be at least the grade of C/SrA.
Wisconsin Cadet Academy, founded in 1971, has a rich history and provides an exceptional level of training and hands on experience to those who attend. Recognized as a Great Lakes Region Cadet Leadership School, WCA also meets one of the requirements for promotion to the grade of Cadet Lieutenant Colonel (CAPR 52-16, 2-9 d).
Objectives of Wisconsin Cadet Academy: · Give the knowledge to teach and lead drill and ceremonies at the squadron level. · Teach how to effectively council both formally and informally. · Give knowledge of different leadership styles and when their use is appropriate. · Develop candidates’ communication skills which are necessary for instruction. · Give knowledge of various instructional techniques. · Develop the skills necessary to promote both teamwork and team accountability. · Develop the skills necessary to properly manage conflicting objectives, while still reaching the desired end state. · Use PT to instill teamwork, leadership experience, and promote a healthy lifestyle. · Develop effective written communication skills.
Wisconsin Cadet Academy (WCA) is a very different experience than that of a Basic Encampment; this is especially evident in the fact that those that attend hold the cadet leadership positions on rotation for the duration of the program. WCA strives to train cadets to become better leaders and highly motivated cadet officers. We provide instruction and practical experience to all cadet candidates so that they can graduate with the knowledge, character, and motivation essential to succeed in not only the Civil Air Patrol, but also every other aspect of life. This hands on experience, I have come to believe, is the most important aspect of our Academy. Cadets will be pushed to make timely decisions and will have to apply what they are being taught as the week progresses.
APPLICATION NOTE: In addition to the application, a separate essay is required. Write a one (1) page essay on why you want to attend the WCA Class of 2007 and what you hope to get out of WCA. This should be done using the CAP Official Memorandum-Style Letter as outlined in CAPR 10-1. Please return this essay along with your application. Both must be received in a timely manner. We anticipate a large number of applicants this year. Unfortunately we have a set maximum capacity, which we must follow, so submit your application as soon as possible. Applications will be processed in order based on when applications and essays are received. We wouldn’t want you to miss out on this great opportunity to continue the long tradition that WCA has developed over the years.
WCA STAFF: In addition to the candidate applications, staff applications will soon be available online. I have already spoken with some members interested in serving on the WCA Cadre and I would ask that those interested submit an application as soon as possible. Position descriptions and requirements are below:
· WCA Senior Leadership Officer: This senior member will provide leadership, training, and supervision to candidates, and perform other duties as given by the director or deputy director. Should have exceptional knowledge of Civil Air Patrol manuals and regulations, especially in regard to drill & ceremonies and uniforms. Prior encampment experience and a Civil Air Patrol driver’s license is preferred.
· WCA Cadet Leadership Officer: This cadet officer will provide leadership and training to candidates, and perform other duties as given by the director or deputy director. Should have exceptional knowledge of Civil Air Patrol manuals and regulations, especially in regard to drill & ceremonies and uniforms. Should have previously served on an encampment’s staff.
Lt Col Kreitz and I are excited for another exceptional WCA class this year at Volk Field; please distribute this information to all who may be interested. All questions may be directed to me by email at rkoehler@new.rr.com or by phone at (920) 475-4865.

Ohio scores big at GLR Cadet Competition
Ohio Wing:
It's my pleasure to announce that the Ohio Wing Drill Team (OH-051 Youngstown ARS Composite Squadron) scored 2nd place and the Ohio Wing Color Guard Team (OH-139 Columbus Cadet Squadron) scored 2nd place at the 2007 Great Lakes Region Cadet Competition. The competition was held this weekend at Wright-Patterson AFB. Both of our teams performed exceptionally well and I can personally say that I haven't seen a more motivated group of cadets in my CAP career -- they represented us 100%!

Encampment Application Deadline Extension
Ohio Wing:
Because some people may have had trouble accessing the encampment website and the potential for information to have not been disseminated as quickly as anticipated existed, we are extending the deadline for encampment applications until 15May. The deadline will not be extended again. Applications received before or on 15May will only need $175 per member. Applications received after 15May will need to include the $185 fee ($175 + $10 late fee).
Thank you.
