Wing Trip to National Museum of the United States Air Force-Feb 16

posted Feb 1, 2013, 7:50 PM by Mark Woods

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The date is fast approaching for the annual Ohio Wing Trip to the
National Museum of the United States Air Force. We will again be
offering prizes for the unit that brings the most members, the unit to
complete the scavenge hunt first and correct, the unit with the member
with the greatest time in service to CAP, and the unit that brings the
newest member. Please be sure to stop by the registration table and
sign-in. We will do a group photo at 1500 (3:00pm). The UOD will be
blues. New cadets and seniors may come in appropriate civilian dress
as I want no new members turned away because they have not gotten the
uniform as of yet, however, please strive to have as many possible in
uniform. BDUs would be OK if that is all they have. Please have all
members check for proper wear of the uniform. Remember, we not only
represent CAP, but also the USAF,and our Nation. We are building and
Rebuilding relationships with the USAF and the NMUSAF. The museum
opens at 0900 and closes at 1700(5:00 pm).You are free to come and go
at anytime. However, it will be nice to meet with others. I found the
event was most interesting to myself in meeting other members of the
Ohio Wing Community. The address is 1100 Spaatz St Dayton Ohio. The
museum phone is 937-255-3286,and my cell number is 614-288-1221. The
IMAX is closed until March due to 3D renovations being completed. The
museum is free, has a great gift shop with a cafe on the upper level. An
additional charge would be for the Morphis movies simulator that is
4.00. AEM teachers, I hope to see some of you at this event. I realize
you may not be able to bring your class, however, this 3rd Saturday is
family day and many hands-on demonstrations will be taking place. Unit
commanders, please let me know by 8 February a count of members that
will try to attend.

Sincerely,
Capt Vic Hammond,CAP

Billeting Instructions for field trip to NMUSAF

posted Dec 21, 2012, 5:27 PM by Mark Woods

Ladies and Gentlemen:

As you are aware, the annual Ohio Wing Field Trip to the National Museum of the United States Air Force occurs on Feb 16, 2013. Some units last year requested billeting information. We will have a single point of contact for billeting. The designated POC will be Capt Louis Adams, Asst Ohio Wing DAE. The cut-off date for requests will be 20 January, 2013.

We will need, from each Unit by 20 Jan. 2013, a list of its members who require billets. The list must include each individual’s name, rank, phone number, address, email address, and membership number for each Cadet and Senior member, as well as the dates each billet will be needed. Units needing the dining hall should also include this information when submitting their lists. On-base rooms will be on a space available basis for CAP and will run approximately $36.00 per person per night. These rooms contain one bed, and must be reserved and may not be confirmed until 24-48 hours before the date needed. Hope Hotel will cost approximately $77.00 per night. If you desire, you may also look for rooms elsewhere on your own.

For the on-base activities, we want to use the single point of contact. Please contact Capt Adams at his Wing Email; louis.adams@ohwg.cap.gov. Capt Adams and I are looking forward to seeing you in February for this activity.

Sincerely,

Capt Vic Hammond, CAP

Asst DAE External

posted Oct 23, 2012, 5:13 PM by Mark Woods

Ladies and gentlemen,

We are accepting applications for the position of Asst DAE; External
for Ohio Wing. CAPR20-1(E), page 32 describes this position. All
applicants, to be considered, must have the Yeager Award, enrolled in
and pursuing the AE Specialty Track, and have a letter of
recommendation from their squadron commander. Applicants who are new
to AE may also apply; however, we are seeking a member who is familiar
with the orientation ride process so as to move the TOPFLIGHT
program in to high gear. Therefore, familiarity with WIMRS will be an
asset. This position is NOT for you to build flight hours taking
teachers that are aerospace education members on orientation rides. IT
IS about facilitation of that program so EVERY AEM receives a ride in
a CAP aircraft each year they are a member.

Additional duties will include planning and conducting classes for
AEMs,and making or coordinating the presentations by CAP members in
schools, museum and other organizations that request a
speaker.Promotional events such as airshows, and fairs would be another
area that aerospace external could be of great advantage to CAP and
could use the input of this staff officer.

It will be required of this staff member to attend all Wing Staff
meetings,as well as functions requested by the director or his
deputy.Professionalism,integrity,pursuit of excellence,proper wear of
the uniform and observance of military customs and courtesies will
also be required.

Sincerely,
Capt Vic Hammond,CAP
Ohio Wing DAE

Ladies and gentlemen,

It is time to begin thinking about Brewer Awards,AEO of the year, AE
teacher of the year, etc. Why should Ohio Wing lose out to others on
these awards? Our personnel do not get paid. They deserve to receive an
award when they give of their time, money, and talents to make a
difference in aerospace education. In addition the aerospace education
members play a key role as they educate the future leaders of our
Nation. Please see CAPP 215 for the procedures to nominate an
individual senior, cadet or teacher. We are in the process of
developing Wing awards and will award an AE teacher of the year for
2011 based on an application submitted and forwarded to Great Lakes
Region Headquarters.
