Advanced Level 1 Course

Date: Tuesday, September 22, 2009 6:25 PM

Good evening,

One of the courses that will be offered at the PDO weekend in October is the Advanced Level 1 course.  This new course is for newer members that are just joining or members that would like a refresher course on CAP as a Level 1 instructor.  I'm requesting that all unit commanders pass this information along to your newer members and encourage them to attend this course.  Were going to be offering all of the basic classes for newer members as well as the B cut Radio operators class.  This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about CAP and take nearly all of the classes that are needed for Senior Members.  All of the newer information on PDO will be available including the new Basic Officers Course that is scheduled to replace AFIADL 13 in January. It's also a great opportunity to meet the Wing Staff and become familiar with the location of the PDO courses that are offered here in Ohio.

The course directors are Lt Pat Hrinko patricia.hrinko@gmail.com  and Lt Christine Mertz adagio2008@aol.com.

Group and Unit Commanders, can you please forward this information along to your new Senior Members that are not on the Wing e-mail list and probably are not aware that we are offering this new course for them. Thank you.

2009 Pre-Conference Training Classes

Date: Thursday, July 30, 2009 7:31 PM

Region and Wing Commanders,

The registration numbers are low for several of the classes at the Pre-Conference Training Sessions for this year. For example, there are 80 slots (two classes of 40) for the G1000 ground school that Cessna is teaching but we only have 11 people signed up so far. The CISM, ICS 400 and ARCHER Mission Base classes also have a number of spaces available at this time.

These sessions offer our members a great opportunity to receive valuable training and CAP has arranged for certified instructors to teach many of the classes. Please help us promote all of the classes on the attached spreadsheet within your regions and wings, so that as many members as possible can take advantage of these great courses. We are trying to keep from combining or cancelling any of the classes, so it is important that we increase the number of people registered during the next week. This training is something that we do not want our members to miss out on.

Thank you for your help, and we look forward to seeing you in San Antonio!

Job Opportunities with the Air Force

Date: Thursday, July 23, 2009 3:18 PM

For those Ohio Wing members and/or their spouses, family members, friends, etc.,

The Air Force has announced that they will begin hiring civilians to staff Air Force unit level administrative positions.  Sort of a return to the old "orderly room" concept.  Please see the following article for more information and bookmark the usa job site mentioned in the article.  I have no other information than what is contained in the article and the web site.

PDO EVENTS

Date: Monday July 6, 2009 10:09 PM

Members of Ohio Wing,

There will be a 1 day AFIADL 13 course held on Saturday August 1, 2009 at Ohio Wing Headquarters in Columbus.  Any officer needing AFIADL for completion of level 2 in the Senior Member PDO tract should plan on attending if possible.  This will be one of the last opportunities to take advantage of this course before the new Basic Officer Course (BOC) is implemented at the end of this year.  The National failure rate for CAP members is over 30%.  This class room style course has a failure rate of 2%.  This is the easiest method to pass the exam and complete level 2.

I highly encourage attending this 1 day course if you still need to complete AFIADL.

Here are the details:

To enroll, please e-mail me at bbjtresz@juno.com with your full name, rank, CAP ID number, and unit charter number. Location is the Auditorium at Ohio Wing Headquarters in Columbus. Cost will be $10.00 payable by check to Ohio Wing. Uniform of the day will be white aviator shirt with dark blue pants or golf/polo shirt combination. Please forward your check and a completed form 17 to Ohio Wing Hq:

DSCC
attn Civil Air Patrol
P.O. Box 3990
Columbus, Ohio 43218-3990

Also, Great Lakes Region Staff College will be held on July 12-18, 2009 at Grissom AFB in Indiana.  RSC is needed for completion of Level 4. Contact the course director, Lt. Col. Dick Neuwirth at rcvneuw@bright.net .  This week long course is a great CAP career opportunity and a highly rewarding experience. I hope to see you there.

Thank you.

Summer AFIADL Course

Date: Wednesday, May 27, 2009, 10:09 PM

Good evening,

I'm receiving a number of request to conduct a Summer AFIADL 13 course (not related to the PDO weekend) and to attempt to conduct this course in July. I have notified your Group Commanders that I can schedule this course if we receive enough support for it.  I would need at least 30+ members to enroll and commit to the course.  At this time I have approximately 14 interested in signing up.  Please contact your Level 1 and 2 members and have them contact me at bbjtresz@juno.com .  At this point I'm looking at July 25 or 26 to hold the course with a location to be announced.  Cost would be $10.00 and we would attempt to hold this 1 day course from 8:00am to 6:00pm.

This notice is intended for the newer members of the organization that may not be on the Wing e-mail list.  Please pass this notice through your units to the members needing it.  Also, Cadets that have attained the Mitchell or higher are permitted to attend with their Unit Commanders approval.

Thank you.

Bruce Tresz Lt. Col. CAP
Director of Professional Development
Ohio Wing Headquarters

From the Ohio Wing PDO:

The 2009 Great Lakes Region Staff College will be held at Grissom AFB in Indiana on the week of  July 12-18, 2009.  Any interested officer needing GLR Staff College can enroll by contacting the course director Lt. Col. Dick Neuwirth at  rcvneuw@bright.net .  SLS and CLC are required before attending RCS and your commander must approve.  There is no rank requirement.  Please forward an electronic CAPF 17 through ranks to Lt. Col. Neuwirth.  RCS is required for completion of Level 4 in the PDO program.  This week long course is a rewarding, yet challenging, PDO event.  I highly encourage and suggest you plan on attending.

Also, there has been numerous request of me to conduct an AFIADL 13 course separately from the PDO weekend in September.  If there is interest and at least 30 interested members, then I will schedule this course for June or July at the Mansfield Lahm AFB in Mansfield Ohio. As most of you know, AFIADL 13 is being replaced by the new Basic Officers Course (BOC) at the end of this year.  This new course is at least 40 chapters long (maybe more) and will need nearly a year or more to complete.  I'm excited about this new course as I'm on the committee at National that is designing it.  However, if taking a year long on line course is not interesting, then I highly encourage attending an AFIADL course while that opportunity still exists.  After December 30th of this year you will be committed to the BOC needed for competition of Level 2.

Any interested member that would like to attend a June or July date AFIADL 13 course can contact me at bbjtresz@juno.com with your name, rank, and CAP ID number.  I will re notify the Wing with a date and time. Thank You.

Bruce Tresz  Lt. Col. CAP
Director of Professional Development
Ohio Wing Headquarters.
