Ohio Wing Headquarters Mailing Address

ALCON,

We have been advised by the Defense Supply Center at Columbus that Civil Air Patrol mail coming to Wing Headquarters is not being properly addressed.  They have advised that ALL CAP MAIL must bear the ATTN: Civil Air Patrol caveat or it may not reach Wing HQ.  In one recent incident a check sent to Wing HQ was inadventantly sent to a wrong office and cashed by that "other" office.  Fortunately the error was caught by a bank and corrected but at a cost of time and effort by many.

If you have confidential mail for a specific individual, seal that mail in the envelope which is addressed to Civil Air patrol.

Federal Magistrate Implementation

All members:

Please be advised that the Defense Supply Center Columbus, a Department of Defense installation, now has its own magistrate.  Henceforth, all types of violations will be heard by the on-base magistrate.  The following summary outlines the new procedures and potential violations.  Please pay particular attention to the firearms section and know how it applies to concealed carry.  A concealed carry permit does NOT authorize you to take a weapon on to the base.

Thank you,

Greg Mathews, Colonel, CAP
Commander, Ohio Wing

Summary: Federal Magistrate Implementation, Description: High Priority
Effective 1 October 2011 the Defense Supply Center, Columbus will begin prosecuting specific criminal violations perpetrated on Center. Most of Center is within the exclusive jurisdiction of the United States and, because of that, all offenses are prosecuted in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. The Federal Magistrate Court process is also in place at other DLA activities that have installation management responsibilities.

Offenses prosecuted will include unauthorized possession of firearms, illegal drug possession, assaults and related offenses and certain traffic violations, including, but not limited to excessive speed, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The process will include Center Police Officers issuing a citation to violators, possible Federal court appearance, possible fines imposed and/or arrest for non-appearance at scheduled court dates. Parking violations and parking in handicap spaces will continue to be administratively heard by the DLA Installation Support at Columbus traffic court. However, repeat offenders for handicap space violations will be prosecuted by the magistrate system.

Beginning 1 September 2011, for traffic moving violations only, after issuing the current administrative ticket DSCC police officers will inform offenders that the same violation beginning in October could be more severe.

Enforcement is being implemented due to recurring offenses and the growth of the installation which provides the potential for increasing offenses.
