Civil Air Patrol Organization
The Civil Air Patrol chain of command is organized into five basic levels:
-
National
-
Region
-
Wing
-
Group
-
Squadron
-
-
-
-
At the Region level, Civil Air Patrol is organized into eight regions. The Ohio Wing is located within the Great Lakes Region of Civil Air Patrol, which is divided into six Wings that are the individual states (IL, IN, KY, MI, OH, and WI) comprised within the region. So, in Civil Air Patrol, Ohio is referred to as the Ohio Wing of the Great Lakes Region.
The Ohio Wing is divided into four Groups that are comprised of 5 to 10 Squadrons located in specific areas of the State. It should be noted that other than select National staff, all CAP members are volunteers.
The Ohio Wing of Civil Air Patrol has squadron locations throughout Ohio. Find a squadron local to you using the national CAP unit locator map or click on a squadron icon on the map provided below.
Ohio Wing Squadrons
Ohio Wing Squadrons are the basic unit by which CAP achieves its goals. They consist typically of at least 15 members, three of whom must be adult members.
There are three types of squadrons in the Civil Air Patrol.
-
Cadet Squadron - primarily composed of cadets, with at least three adult members who oversee the training and administration of the Squadron.
-
Senior Squadron - solely composed of adult members.
-
Composite Squadron - consists of both cadets and adult members and have separate programs within the Squadron.
It should be noted that if a Squadron is too small to be classified as a Squadron, then it is designated as a Flight. A Flight must consist of a minimum of eight members, three of whom must be adult members. A Flight can be reclassified to a Squadron once they increase in members.
